Marlow 3-0 Molesey
By John O’Brien
Molesey travelled to Marlow for this opening day fixture but returned home empty handed as the home side took full advantage of moments of indecision
Molesey handed out 6 full debuts and 2 from the bench in a new look Molesey side. The game started pretty evenly until ex-Mole Charlie Samuel came alive and scored Marlow's opener with a stunning 35 yard thunderbolt.
Molesey had two chances to equaliser with a header cleared of the line before Jordan Smith volleyed over the rebound. Then the combination of Ryan Marklew and Tayo Oyebola sent Athan Smith-Joseph through one on one which the keeper saved with his legs.
Charlie Samuel went on to get his second in the 26th minute. A defensive mix-up allowed him through direct from the home keeper's kick to beat Sacha M'Baye and the onrushing Sam Johnson-Freeman and head home from just inside the box.
The Moles responded well to the half time team talk and came out determined to get back into the game and were well on top when they suffered another sucker punch. Firstly Sacha M'Baye had a header from a Craig Lewington corner cleared off the line after it struck the defenders arm, but the appeals for a penalty were waved away by the Referee.
Then in the 61st minute Marlow's substitute Romeo but the game beyond the Moles with the decisive goal after a corner that was cleared was played back into the box where the forward brought it down and smashed it past the keeper.
The double substitution of Adrian Spence and Joshua Adusei saw our midfield linking with the forwards well with Adusei showing great promise in his 20 minute cameo. Samson Doherty replaced Ryan Marklew who had picked up a slight knock with 10 minutes to go.
