Molesey 1-2 South Park
By John O’Brien
Molesey was hit with a smash and grab at Walton Road on Bank Holiday Monday after dominating this encounter for an hour.
Molesey were guilty of numerous missed chances which came back to haunt them in a ten minute spell from South Park in the second half.
Molesey started extremely well and with purpose as they created some great early chances. Ashby Charles went round the keeper only for the keeper to get slight finger tips to put Ashby off the eventual shot.
When Molesey’s goal came, what a special one it was! After some good defensive work between Chris Wales and Jason Frimpong, the latter played the ball for Joshua Adusei to set Ayo Majekodunmi on his way. The young midfielder drove forward, skipped a challenge and unleashed an unstoppable drive from 30 yards into the top corner leaving the keeper absolutely no chance.
With the visitors in their sights, Molesey went for the kill with chances falling to Ashby Charles, Joshua Adusei, Tayo Oyebola and another 30 yard screamer from Ryan Marklew which the keeper tipped onto the angle of post and crossbar.
Tayo Oyebola and Ryan Marklew both had big shouts for penalties, with Tayo clearly being upended in the box and Ryan being taken out just within but deemed outside the box.
Second half saw Molesey continue in the same vein but South Park has made two changes at half time which definitely had effect. Though they were still going route one, the ball was sticking better up top. Molesey created the moment of the match with a one-touch passing between Sam Labinjo, Joshua Adusei, Ryan Marklew and Tayo Oyebola who went on to have a left foot shot just go wide of the post.
In the 60 minute, Jason Frimpong was replaced by Derick Hayford at left back. Two minutes later the Molesey were caught napping by a long goal kick from Michael Eacott which found his forward who controlled well and delivered a cross which was driven goal wards. Captain Chris Wales seemed to clear off the line but the ball was adjudged to cross the line.
Molesey made two further substitutions either side of a South Park player being sent off. Ezra Nelson replaced Joshua Adusei in the 66th minute and Manny Quarshie entered the fray in the 69th minute.
Molesey seemed to panick and didn’t regain control of the game until South Park took the lead after a swift counter saw a cross to the far post for their striker to finish with his head in the 74th minute. Manny Quarshie was sent off for an apparent elbow or flailing arm which saw the South Park centre half go to ground. After showing a yellow, the ref then should a red for possibly something said.
Molesey still created chances with Tayo Oyebola having a shot from a narrow angle saved, Ashby Charles was again thwarted, Chris Wales had a curling free kick parried away and Ezra Nelson was foiled by the keepers feet.
Having created so many chances, the Boys were bitterly disappointed in themselves for not securing a win, but it was a harsh lesson learned about this division where you must be clinical or be punished.
Next up for the Moles is an away day to Ware FC on Saturday then down to the Dripping Pan for our FA Cup replay versus Lewes.
