Redhill 1-2 Molesey
Molesey Reserves put in a battling performance to secure another valuable 3 points to keep the pressure on at the top of the table.
With two changes to last week's team seeing Dariush Heravi returning as Darnell MacDonald was unavailable and Jacob Byerley replacing Matt Painter in Goal.
Redhill started the brighter and created quite a few early chances. Molesey were passing the ball well but the tempo was too slow to break the home team down. Redhill took the lead when even though they had a player down, played on and scored from a cross from their left to the far post was slammed home.
This spurred the Moles into action with the passing becoming slicker and the whole team showing much more urgency. Ezra Nelson had the chance to equalise when after good hustle from Jack Bishop forced the keeper to clear straight to Nelson. But with the goal gaping, the midfielder put his shot over the bar. Our second chance came when Lukas Gereltauskas sent a cross over to Emmanuel Quarshie who controlled well put could not generate power in his shot.
The excellent Stephen Mwinie then put a great ball in which was missed by everyone before Ezra Nelson's cross was headed over by Jack Bishop. The equaliser eventually came when Dariush Heravi picked up the ball on the left, cut inside skipping two challenges before passing to Emmanuel Quarshie on the edge of the box, who went passed the centre half then crashed a shot into the top corner in the 38th minute.
Second half saw the Moles up their work rate even further as Redhill again showed a willingness to win the ball, track and close at every opportunity. Though they still created very good chances, Molesey began to get on top. With Emmanuel Quarshie, Dariush Heravi, Jack Bishop, Ezra Nelson, Jordan Smith and Stephen Mwinie all going close with chances, it was only a matter of time before the second goal would come.
In the 65th minute, Alfie Smith replaced Ezra Nelson in the middle of the park. Then in the 67th minute, Emmanuel Quarshie put a cleverly weighted through ball over the top for Dariush Heravi to bravely race through and beat the onrushing keeper with a lob before being unceremoniously clattered.
Dariush Heravi was immediately replaced by Arun Astley on the right of the front three.
Then came controversy. Redhill were awarded a strange penalty when their midfielder firstly fouled Alex Pearson in the visitors box, and as Emmanuel Quarshie went to clear the danger, the same Redhill player appeared to go in late on our forward. As the whistle blew, everybody expected the foul to go Molesey's way before the Referee pointed to the spot. The following inquest took a while to end, and when the spot kick was eventually taken it was well saved by Jacob Byerley.
Captain Eric Nwaogwugwu was replaced by Ayo Majekodunmi in the 75th minute to provide extra security at the back to seal the win and put us level on points with Sutton United at the top of the league.
Next week the Reserves face Erith Town at Walton Road.
